What is pediatric endocrinology?
Pediatric endocrinology is a specialized field dedicated to diagnosing and treating conditions that affect your child’s hormone system. Hormones play a key role in regulating essential functions such as growth and development, metabolism and energy, reproduction, stress response and sleep. When the body produces too much or too little of these hormones, it can lead to a range of endocrine disorders in children.
What to Expect at Your Appointment
Your visit will begin with a brief check-in process, where you’ll answer a few screening questions to help us better understand your child's needs.
In the exam room, you'll meet with a pediatric endocrinologist or advanced practice nurse trained in endocrinology. The nurse will discuss symptoms, conduct a thorough evaluation and collaborate with you to develop a personalized care plan.
After your appointment, our nursing team will:
- Review next steps in your child's treatment
- Coordinate follow-up appointments
- Ensure you understand your child’s care plan
You'll have continuous access to your child's medical information and can communicate directly with your care team through the OSF MyChart patient portal.
