Ethical Fertility Treatments
For the Catholic Church, ethical fertility treatments keep the act of having children connected to the loving bond of marriage. They also prevent harm to embryos, because life starts at conception.
Ethical fertility treatments include:
- Hormonal treatments: Therapies to address hormonal imbalances or other medical conditions to restore normal reproductive function
- Surgery: Corrective surgeries for physical abnormalities, such as blocked fallopian tubes or endometriosis, that impede natural conception
- Natural family planning (NFP): Methods to identify fertility periods, increasing or decreasing the likelihood of conception
- NaPro: A medical approach based on Catholic teachings that diagnoses and treats underlying causes of infertility while respecting natural conception
- Medications: Medications prescribed to address issues with ovulation in order to promote conception in married couples
